Instructions
- Cut the pressed tofu into slices about 2 cm (1 inch) thick.
- In a shallow bowl, combine the crushed garlic, soy sauce, grated ginger and sesame oil. Add the tofu slices and marinate for at least 30 minutes, turning them now and then.
- Cook the white rice according to the package directions.
- Set up three plates: on the first, mix the cornstarch, salt and black pepper; on the second, pour the soy milk; on the third, mix the panko and toasted black sesame seeds.
- In a saucepan, add all the sauce ingredients and whisk until the cornstarch dissolves. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring often, until thickened. Set aside.
- Coat each marinated tofu slice in the cornstarch mixture, then dip it briefly in the soy milk, then press it into the panko and sesame mixture.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. When hot, add the tofu slices.
- Fry until crisp and golden on each side, then move to a wire rack.
- Plate the rice, top with the crusted tofu, spoon the sauce over it, and add any vegetables you like.
