Turkish Breakfast PİŞİ Recipe | Turkish Fried Dough
Ingredients
- Milk1 cup
- Sugar2 tbsp
- Yeast1 tbsp
- Salt1 tsp
- Flour700 g
- Sunflower oil
Instructions
- Warm the milk, water and sugar together in a bowl; it should be no hotter than 42°C (107°F).
- Stir in the yeast until dissolved, using a wooden spoon or spatula rather than metal.
- Add the flour and knead with your palms, rolling the dough back and forth, until elastic and smooth; this takes about 8 minutes.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rest for about 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Flour the counter, press the dough out gently, and roll it into a sausage shape.
- Divide into roughly 20-25 equal pieces of about 50-60 g each and shape into balls, without pressing hard or knocking out the air.
- Cover the balls and let them rest for 20 minutes, first with a dry cloth and then with a damp one on top.
- Oil your hands, press a hole in the centre of each ball with your fingers and pierce it all the way through; widen the hole with your fingers.
- Fry until golden brown, about 4 minutes, leaving them undisturbed until one side has coloured before flipping.
- Drain the fried pişi in a sieve so the excess oil runs off.
