Upside Down Caramel Apple Tart
Ingredients
- Apple1 can
- Pie crust1 packet
- Flour · for dusting
- Egg1
- Sugar1 tbsp
- Caramel sauce · for serving
- Saltto taste
- Ice cream · for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove the apple slices from the pie filling, reserving the rest for another use. Arrange them in 4 separate shingled rows of 5–6 slices each on the lined sheet.
- Roll out the pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into 4 rectangles, about 4x6 inches each, large enough to cover an apple row.
- Place one dough rectangle over each apple row, pressing the edges gently onto the parchment to enclose the apples.
- Whisk the egg and water together. Brush over the dough and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
- Bake for about 10 minutes, until the crust is puffed and golden brown.
- Flip each tart carefully onto a plate so the apples are on top. Serve warm with caramel sauce, a pinch of flaky sea salt and vanilla ice cream.
