Ingredients
- Beef
- Sirloin2 lb
- Sugar3 tsp
- Salt2 tsp
- Black pepper1 tsp
- Garlic3
- Vegetable oil2 tbsp
- Butter2 tbsp
- Onion1
- Soy sauce2 tbsp
- Fish sauce1 tsp
- Honey2 tbsp
- Rice wine vinegar2 tbsp
- Lime4 tsp
Instructions
- In a large bowl, marinate the beef cubes with sugar, salt, black pepper and minced garlic for at least 10 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, fish sauce, honey, rice vinegar and sugar to make the sauce. Adjust the sugar to taste, adding it a little at a time. Leave out the onion and garlic for now.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
- Sear the beef on all sides, shaking the pan, until medium rare, no more than 3 minutes in total. Sear in batches to avoid overcooking. Transfer the beef to a plate.
- In the empty pan, melt the butter, then add the onion and garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add the sauce and the seared beef, and toss until well coated.
- Serve the beef on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes and/or cucumbers, with rice and optional lime dipping sauce made from lime juice, salt and pepper.
