Why I make my BLT sandwich like a Burger with Bacon.
Ingredients
- Bread4 slices
- Bacon4 slices
- Tomato1
- Romaine lettucea handful
- Mayonnaisea spoonful
- Vinegara splash
- Salta sprinkle
- Black peppera sprinkle
Instructions
- Cook the bacon low and slow in a skillet or in a 400°F/204°C oven until the fat has rendered and the bacon is very crisp.
- Slice the heirloom tomato into slices at least 1/2 inch (1–2 cm) thick, sized to fit the bread edge to edge. Sprinkle with salt and a couple of cracks of black pepper, and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Spread mayo on one side of each bread slice and toast in a pan until golden brown. Lightly toast the other side so it stays a little soft.
- Finely shred the lettuce. Mix a little mayo with the vinegar (or another acid such as citrus or pickling liquid), drizzle over the lettuce and toss to coat evenly.
- To assemble, spread mayo on the top bread slice and dressed lettuce on the bottom slice. Layer the thick tomato slices over the lettuce in a single layer, add 2 pieces of crispy bacon, and close with the top slice.
- Repeat for the second sandwich.
